Short Documentary, 18 mins

When I was 18 years old, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue film. Unfortunately, my time there was cut short due to my father’s ailing health. At the time, he had late-stage Parkinson’s disease and I moved back home to help my mother care for him. This propelled me to direct my first short film, GIVE, chronicling my father’s disease and my mother’s pivotal role as his caregiver.

I dropped the last of my savings on a used Canon 7D, a RØDE mic, and some very non-professional lights, and began my journey filming and editing. This film served as a massive education for me, as I had never taken on something of this caliber on my own. Trust me, many mistakes were made, and I am all the better for them. I had also never viewed my parent’s relationship through this kind of lens before. It was beautiful, strange, terrifying, humbling, and ultimately one of the best personal and creative decisions I’ve ever made.
